Everything Everywhere All At Once
EEAO is a movie that is everything, everywhere all at once - it makes you laugh your ass off , sob like a baby, bewildered at the crazy action scenes, and most importantly : it inspires hope. In a world where everyone is apathetic of the disasters around us, where a big portion of the world have no hopes for the future, its a movie that reminds me, in a silly and goofy kinda way that "nothing matters :(" can be "nothing matters :)" Idk what else I can say except its a 10 outta 10 movie. its worth watching for the special effects alone !!! But also if you are in a bad headspace, I'd suggest putting it on and learning how to love what's important again.
Eat Drink Man Woman

Ahh the quintessential Asian experience - having dinner with your family while an Elephant as big as Taj Mahal is peering over your shoulders. Eat Drink Man Woman is a family drama and romantic comedy that I feel best encapsulates how the Asian family unit operates : Food and Drink goes on top of the table, and discussions of men and women go under. Trust me guys I know I had to take counselling sessions just to tell my parents I had a boyfriend at 20. Aside from the food pr0n and the hilariously timed story beats, the movie is heartwarming and tender and the relationship between the father and his 3 daughters were expertly crafted to convey the differences in the daughter’s personalities.

Movies Directed by Sean Baker

DISCLAIMER : I have not watched all his movies, though I want to !
Sean Baker’s m/o is movies about the underprivileged americana i.e sex workers, teen moms, motel hoppers. I think there are plenty of films out there on the subject, but the difference is I genuinely think Sean Baker is honestly trying to show us a glimpse of their lives as human beings in a non exploitative way. His main characters are often women working societally stigmatized jobs but where a less capable director may try to push a “perfect victim” ideal onto them, Baker’s protagonists are just who they are. Sometimes they are loud, aggressive, funny, mean, judgmental and they are allowed to do bad things and makes mistakes, y’know, like an actual well-rounded human being. I highly encourage coming into his movies like you’re sitting in on a day in the life of the protagonist and less like you’re watching a movie with plot progression. My favorites are The Florida Project, Anora & Tangerine.

I lowkey have a hate love relationship with Haneke lol. He makes movies that are not enjoyable to watch and it just kind of feels like you’re eating glass for nearly the entire run time. But like damn it he does make a REAAALLLY good point in every single one of them. He is the master of subverting expectations, of playing with mediums, of making a damn point by smashing a mallet over your head and leaving you with the THIS 😦 expression by the end of his films. Drink every time you say what the fuck” while watching his films i dare you

Human Traffic

The reverse Trainspotting. As an introvert with very little interest in clubbing and club culture I think this is the movie that made me want to go out more lol. Idk its a pretty straight forward movie what can i say except it was a good time. I could really tell the director was really taking from personal experiences which made the movie feel very grounded and there was a lot of personal love put into it. Also can we talk about how this movie is a celebration of the weekends? And how amazing a good time is enough to re energize you for the week?
